The catalogue
In February 1619, four years after the library was
established, librarian Mulerius wrote a list of the books present. There
are two copies of this list. One is the librarian's working copy, with
the title Academicorum Syllabus Librorum and the year 1619 stamped
in gold on the front cover.
In this copy, the catalogue of 1619 is followed by later acquisitions made
during the terms of office of Mulerius and his successors up to the
eighteenth century. The second one is a beautifully written and decorated
copy, intended to be shown to important visitors, donors, and potential
sponsors. The list of February 1619 contains 219 titles in the working
copy, while the calligraphic copy has 204 titles in 403 volumes. Most of
them are in folio format, a few are quartos.
